There have recently been major advances in the development of GPS navigation, and it is now an essential part of modern mobility. We have always been backed up by GPS on our tours for many years now, and we have practical experience of all of the devices in this catalogue – often under extreme conditions. We develop and manufacture our own motorbike mounting brackets and many other accessories such as our patented GPS handlebar brackets.
GPS = Global Positioning System. The GPS satellite system comprises a large number of satellites that transmit positional signals to earth. To calculate the current position, a GPS receiver collects data from up to 12 satellites that may be located above the horizon (acquisition). The position can be determined to within 16 feet. Today's modern GPS devices can receive all the positional signals from the 12 visible satellites simultaneously.
The devices we sell are fitted with highly sensitive GPS chip sets, for example the
SiRFStar III. This represents a quantum leap with regard to GPS performance, allowing a usable signal to
be received even in deep street canyons or dense woods and forests. Movement is always necessary to
use
a GPS receiver actively. The GPS devices presented here in our catalogue are state-of-the-art, active
navigational aids for urban and country environments.
Our systems can be roughly divided into outdoor and more road-oriented systems. In selecting the devices, we focus primarily on stability and suitability for use on motorbikes and all sorts of outdoor activities. Many of the GPS systems shown here can also be used in a car. Depending upon the device model, TMC traffic information is also integrated together with the detailed navigation. These criteria all result in the optimum balance of price and performance which Touratech guarantees you as the customer.

The base mount with the power supply strip and control buttons on the side which is supplied with the BMW Navigator IV is integrated into the Touratech handlebar mount. Using the original BMW base mount on its own does not sufficiently protect the Navigator IV against the vibrations that occur specifically on motorcycles. Another feature of our handlebar mount is that the BMW Navigator IV securely locks into the motorcycle mounting.
